Honestly, this is one of my favourite animes/mangas, and for a lot of reasons.
The characters are so lovable. We can really relate to Sawako-chan, and we can understand her struggles as the "weirdo". We can tell how happy she is when she makes two new friends: Ayane and Chizuru. We can also see first loves, as well as many other adorable moments that will definitely have you squealing like the fan-girl you are.
There is also a lot of humour in this anime/manga. Sawako is very cute and awkward, even without her realizing it. There are little chibi drawings that will absolutely crack you up! (P.S, my sister was looking at me weird because I was laughing too hard and too much XD)
The rival, Ume-chan is also very relatable, as well as admirable. She is strong, and has her own scars as well. Unlike some shoujo manga rivals that are so petty and just plainly unlikable, she accepts that he doesn't love her back and deals with it. In the end, these two even help each other study to get into a teaching school!
One thing that had me very frustrated (just one of my otaku pet-peeves) was when Shota confessed to Sawako, and then they just COMPLETLY MISUNDERSTAND EACH OTHER! Like, how does that just HAPPEN?! Then they go on for a couple of chapters completely sad and miserable and you're just over here banging your head on the keyboard like
